Homelessness is defined by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services as “an assistance unit who lacks a fixed and regular nighttime residence or an individual whose primary nighttime residence is one of the following – a supervised shelter designed to provide temporary accommodations, a halfway house or similar institution, a temporary accommodation in the residence of another individual who may be a relative, or a place not designed for, or ordinarily used as, a regular sleeping accommodation for people.” 1 There are various causes of homelessness such as job loss, drug and alcohol abuse, and domestic violence.
